My StoryAloha! My name is Kiana and this is my website documenting my journey with Mālama Honua, an elective science course offered here at Kamehameha Kapālama. I am a senior this year and am planning on attending the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa in the fall of 2017. I hope to double major in Natural Resource and Environmental Management and ʻŌlelo Hawaiʻi. After that I would like to go to the UH Richardson School of Law. I wish to major in environmental law with a focus in Native Hawaiian rights. No, you donʻt need to tell me that I am crazy for pursuing this dream; my parents already tell me on a daily basis.
One quote that I live by though is from Steve Jobs. He once said, "the people who are crazy enough to think that they can change the world, are the very ones who do so." Follow along as I learn how to be a better kupa o ka ʻāina and member of the lāhui. Mahalo. |

What is Mālama Hōnua?Besides being an elective science course offered at Kamehameha Kapālama, Mālama Honua is also the name of the Worldwide Voyage being undertaken by Hōkūleʻa and the Polynesian Voyaging Society (PVS). Mālama Hōnua means to care for our island Earth. The goal of this Worldwide Voyage is to spread the message of global sustainability. The voyage began in 2013 with a sail around the Hawaiian islands and will continue through 2017 when Hōkūleʻa is scheduled to return back home with the next generation of Hawaiian celestial navigators.
